How to Run a Search
A step-by-step walkthrough of running a restricted party screening search from start to finish.
Navigating to the tool
There are two ways to reach the Restricted Party Screening tool:
- From the dashboard, click Start Screening in the banner at the top
- Use the left sidebar and navigate to Tools → Restricted Party Screening
The tool is located at tradelasso.com/dashboard/tools/rps.
Entering a search query
Type the name of the individual or entity you want to screen into the search box. A few guidelines for best results:
- Use the full legal namewhen available. "Acme Trading Corporation" will return better results than just "Acme".
- Search name variations if you are unsure of the exact spelling — especially for transliterated names from Arabic, Farsi, Korean, or Russian.
- Try both with and without abbreviations— e.g., "Inc" vs "Incorporated", or "Ltd" vs "Limited".
- Do not include addresses or identifiers in the search box — use the entity name only. Filtering by country is done via Advanced Filters.
Running the search
Press Enter or click the Search button. TradeLasso will query all 13 lists in the U.S. Consolidated Screening List simultaneously and return results within a few seconds.
What happens after you search
While results load, TradeLasso also begins compiling your full audit record in the background. Once complete, the search is saved to your Search History (Pro plans only) with all result data stored for later retrieval and PDF export.
Note
The audit record is only saved if TradeLasso successfully captures the complete result set. If you see a message indicating the audit log failed, re-run the search to ensure a complete record is stored.
Interpreting the result summary
After the search completes, you will see one of the following:
- No matches found — The search returned no entries above the match threshold. Your screening is recorded as clean.
- X match(es) found — One or more entries were returned. Review each result card carefully. See Understanding Results for a full breakdown of what each card contains.
Tips for accurate screening
- Screen both the company name and the names of key individuals (directors, owners) separately
- If a company is foreign-owned, screen the parent company name as well
- Re-screen existing customers and suppliers periodically — lists are updated daily
- Document every screening, even clean ones, for your compliance audit trail
