TradeLasso

Legal Disclaimer

TradeLasso is a compliance technology tool. This page explains important limitations on what screening results mean and what legal obligations remain with you.

Read this before relying on TradeLasso for compliance decisions

TradeLasso is a technology screening tool, not a legal advisory service. Screening results must be reviewed and interpreted by qualified personnel. The ultimate responsibility for export compliance rests with the exporter.

TradeLasso is not legal advice

Nothing in TradeLasso — including search results, documentation, or any content on this website — constitutes legal advice. TradeLasso provides a technology tool to help automate one component of a restricted party screening process. It does not provide compliance determinations, legal opinions, or regulatory guidance.

If you need guidance on export compliance requirements, consult a licensed export compliance attorney or a qualified trade compliance professional.

Screening results require human review

A "Hit" from TradeLasso indicates a name similarity between your search query and an entry on a government list. It does not confirm that the entity you are screening is the same party as the listed entry. Conversely, a "Clean" result does not mean the entity is cleared for all purposes — it means no close name matches were found in the available data at the time of the search.

Every result — Hit or Clean — requires review by a person with appropriate compliance knowledge before any compliance determination is made.

Data accuracy and completeness

TradeLasso sources data from the U.S. Consolidated Screening List (CSL) via the trade.gov API. While we synchronize daily and work to ensure data accuracy, TradeLasso does not guarantee:

  • That the CSL data reflects the very latest government list updates at all times
  • That the CSL is complete or free of errors as published by the government
  • That screening against the CSL satisfies all applicable compliance requirements for your specific transaction, product, or jurisdiction

The exporter's responsibility

Under U.S. export control law, the legal obligation to screen counterparties, determine license requirements, and comply with sanctions regulations rests entirely with the exporter. TradeLasso is a tool to assist with one part of this process. Using TradeLasso does not transfer or limit your legal obligations.

Not a substitute for a compliance program

Restricted party screening is one element of a complete export compliance program. A robust compliance program also includes:

  • Export classification (EAR/ITAR commodity classification)
  • License determination and application where required
  • Customer and end-use due diligence beyond name screening
  • Record-keeping and internal controls
  • Employee training
